Guwahati, January 23:  A palpable tension grips Guwahati as approximately 5,000 Congress workers endeavor to embark on the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi. The Assam police, in significant numbers, have been deployed to impede the Congress rally from traversing Guwahati's roads.

 Clash Over Route Permission

The Himanta Biswa Sarma government in Assam has denied permission for the Yatra to proceed through the arterial roads of Guwahati, citing potential traffic disruptions on a working day. Instead, they directed the rally to take National Highway 27, which circumvents the city. Rahul Gandhi, addressing the crowd at Guwahati city limits, asserted, "We will not break the law. Don't think we are weak; it's the power of Congress workers."

Allegations of Suppression

Accusing the state administration of arbitrary obstruction, Congress workers claim the government is deliberately impeding their entry into the city. This clash unfolds amidst an escalating verbal duel between the Congress and the BJP-led Assam government, with Congress alleging continuous attacks on their convoys, properties, and leaders.

Gandhi's Message

Rahul Gandhi, undeterred by the hurdles, declared, "Congress workers aren't afraid of BJP-RSS; we'll defeat them in Assam." Expressing concern for the people of Assam, he highlighted instances of student interactions being cancelled and urged for justice in the face of what he labelled as the suppression of the state.

Face-off Escalation

Responding to the escalating tensions, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accused Rahul Gandhi of employing "Naxalite tactics" and instructed the Assam Police to register a case against him for provoking the crowd. The Chief Minister further criticized Congress for causing a massive traffic jam in Guwahati.

Shrine Visit Controversy

Yesterday's events unfolded dramatically as Rahul Gandhi was barred from visiting the shrine of 15th-century social reformer Srimanta Sankardeva. The Chief Minister urged him to delay the visit until after the Ram Mandir 'Pran Pratistha' ceremony in Ayodhya concludes.

Shrine Management Standoff

The shrine's managing committee initially agreed to Rahul Gandhi's visit but later altered its position, stating he wouldn't be allowed entry before 3 pm. The Congress leader, undeterred, expressed his respect for Srimanta Sankardeva's philosophy of unity and peace.

Gandhi's Commitment to Harmony

In a media statement, Rahul Gandhi reiterated his commitment to the teachings of Srimanta Sankardeva, emphasizing unity over hatred. Despite facing roadblocks, he maintained, "When I came to Assam, I should offer my respects to him."

Conclusion

The Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra continues to face hurdles in Assam, with the Congress and the state government locked in a battle of words and actions. As the political drama unfolds, the nation watches closely, awaiting the resolution of this intense standoff in the heart of Guwahati.
