New Delhi, March 16 : India is embarking on the largest democratic exercise in the world. Election activities will be held in 543 Lok Sabha constituencies of India in the coming months of April and May. Voting will start from 19th April and the last round of voting will be held on 1st June. Then the counting of votes will be held on June 4.
Assembly elections in four states including Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh will also be held simultaneously during these phases. Not only that, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajeev Kumar said in a press conference that by-elections will also be held in the vacant seats.
The conference was telecast live through ECI's various platforms. The 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases, with the first and last phase voting on April 19 and June 1 respectively.
The announcement was made by the Election Commission of India (ECI). 96.8 crore eligible voters, including 47.1 crore women, are eligible to vote in this year's Lok Sabha elections, the largest democratic exercise in the world. It should be mentioned here that the number of constituencies in the electoral table is 544. When Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar was asked about this, he clarified and said that one seat in the northeastern state of Manipur will be voted twice. The first phase of polling will be held on April 19, the same day that the Assembly Elections in Sikkim also will be held consecutively.
In the first phase of the 17th Lok Sabha elections, voting will be held on April 19 in 102 constituencies. In the second phase, on April 26 in 89 constituencies, in the third phase on May 7 in 94 constituencies, in the fourth phase on May 13 in 96 constituencies, in the fifth phase on May 20 in 49 constituencies, in the sixth phase on May 25 in 57 constituencies and in the seventh phase in 57 constituencies. Voting will be held on June 1
Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases in three states of the country, namely Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. 
Assembly and Lok Sabha elections will be held in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh in the first phase - on April 19. The notification will be issued on March 20 in both the states, the last day of registration will be March 27, the candidature examination will be on March 28, the date of withdrawal of candidature will be on March 30 and the voting will be on April 19. Both the elections will be held in Andhra Pradesh on May 13. In Odisha, both the elections will be held in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh phases. 
In West Bengal on April 19, Cochbehar, Alepurduar Jalpaigadhi; Darjeeling, Raiganj, and Balurghat on 26 April; 07 May Malda North and South, Zangipur, and Murshidabad; 13th May Braharampur, Krishnanagar, Ranaghat, Barddhaman East and Durgapur, Asansol, Bholpur and Birbhum; On May 20, Vangaon, Barrackpore, Howrah, Uluberia, Srirampur, Hooghly, and Arambagh; Polling will be held in Tamluk, Kanti, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankuda, and Bishnupur on May 25 and Dumdum, Barasat, Basirhat, Jayanagar, Mathurapur, Diamond Harbour, Javadpur, Kolkata South, and North on June 1. 
Elections in Assam will be held in three phases. Voting will be held in the first phase in eastern Assam, second phase in central Assam and third phase in western Assam including Guwahati, Kokrajhar. 
The states to be polled in a single phase are - Arunachal Pradesh (in the first phase), Sikkim (in the first phase), Gujarat (in the third phase), Haryana (in the sixth phase), Himachal Pradesh (in the seventh phase), Kerala (in the second phase), Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Nagaland. (in the first phase), Punjab (in the seventh phase), Tamil Nadu (in the first phase), Telangana (in the fourth phase), Uttarakhand, Andaman-Nicobar, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry (in the first phase), Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman-Diu (in the third phase). 
Voting in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in five phases (first to fifth respectively). In the sixth phase, the capital Delhi will go to polls on May 25. In this way, the voting process will be completed on June 1, and all the votes will be counted on June 4.
